with DC Universe Seeing the big shake-ups, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed the role Batman Playing on a new slate of franchises. Gunn and producer Peter Safran officially took over the reins of the newly renamed DCU in October of this year, and the pair have been busy developing a new long-term vision for a unified comic book universe spanning film, television, animation and gaming. While some earlier reports suggested that Gunn and Safran were considering bringing Robert Pattinson’s Batman into the new DCU sequel, those claims were later dismissed by Gunn.
Gunn confirmed it Pattinson’s Batman is unique Since the events of the main DCU, fans are now wondering what role DC’s Dark Knight will play in the future of the franchise. One such fan recently reached out to Gunn directly via Twitter, asking if the character of Batman would continue to appear in the DCU or if he would be relegated to Matt Reeves’ films. Continuing to prove his willingness to provide fans with behind-the-scenes information about his developing projects, Gunn confirmed that Batman will continue to play. “A huge part of the DCU.” Check out his original answer below:
Should DC fans expect another Batman?
Now that Gunn has made it clear that DC fans can expect more of Gotham’s caped crusader in DCU fashion, the next question is who will play the brooding vigilante. Pattinson is not officially running DCU’s version of Batman, fans can reasonably expect Ben Affleck or Michael Keaton to fulfill the role going forward. However, considering Henry Cavill’s recent departure from the role of Superman, another cast announcement could be on the horizon.
With each announcement, the possibility of rebooting the entire franchise seems more likely, and if Gunn and Safran already want to recast a younger Superman, it would make sense for a younger Batman to join him. Of course, expect the pair to still use the old DCEU’s original plans. Keaton’s Batman serves as an elder statesman Following next year’s events Flash. Having an older Batman would allow the franchise to explore other members of the Bat Family, such as Dick Grayson’s Nightwing and Jason Todd’s Red Hood.
However Batman’s future unfolds, the final decision will not be taken lightly. As Gunn and Safran have already proven, they’re willing to make tough decisions in service of their vision for the long-term future of the DCU. Only time will tell if those tough choices will pay off. DC Universe Fans can at least rest easy in the meantime Batman Will continue to play a key role moving forward and factor into Gunn and Safran’s plans.
