Bruno Fernandes Doesn’t look too happy to see Manchester United Team player Cristiano Ronaldo As both stars join Portugal for international duty at the World Cup in Qatar. Ronaldo has set tongues wagging following the publication of an explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which he vented his frustrations with the club.
In footage shared on social media on Monday evening in the Portugal camp, Ronaldo attempts to shake hands with Fernandez. Although the midfielder accepts, Ronaldo remains speechless as Fernandez congratulates him fiercely. Fernandez speaks to Ronaldo only briefly, looks back at the five-time Ballon d’Or winner with a disdainful look, and walks away with the rest of his teammates.
Whether there is more to the clip than meets the eye remains to be seen, but it certainly indicates that Ronaldo’s comments have not gone down well with those representing United.
The first clips of an interview with Morgan began to filter out on Sunday, with Ronaldo saying he felt ‘betrayed’ by the Red Devils, with the superstar struggling to break into Erik den Haag’s side so far this season.
Asked if he thought United were trying to force him out of the club, Ronaldo said: “Yes, not just the coach. [Ten Hag] But two or three other guys around the club. Yes [at senior executive level]. I felt betrayed.
“I have no respect for him (ten Haag) because he has no respect for me. If you don’t respect me, I will never respect you.”
In a clip shared on Monday, Ronaldo went even further, saying the club didn’t believe he was telling the truth when he skipped the team’s pre-season tour to look after his sick newborn daughter.
“I spoke to the board and the chairman of Manchester United,” he continued. “They didn’t believe something was wrong, and that made me feel bad. They believed it, but by the same token, I’m never going to trade my family’s health for football. Never. Now, or ten years ago, or going forward.
“It was something that really hurt me because I suffered because they doubted my word, especially Belle and Jill. I didn’t go to preseason because I wouldn’t let anything happen to my family in preseason. . . . I didn’t think it was fair, and that’s why I didn’t go.”
It remains to be seen if Ronaldo and Fernandez’s relationship will hurt Portugal’s World Cup bid as it did. The European giants will face Ghana in their first match at the World Cup on November 24.
