Meteorologist Anna Mani, who helped kickstart weather forecasting in India, was honored in a recent Google Doodle.

Annamani was born on August 23, 1918 in Peermade, Kerala, India - so today would have been her 104th birthday.

His eagerness to learn got Annamani high school and a degree from Presidency College, Chennai.

Annamani was denied a PhD. Since she didn't have a master's degree in physics.

In 1945, Anna Mani went to England to study at Imperial College, London. While he initially intended to pursue physics, Mani learned a lot about meteorology and the specialized instruments used in meteorology and forecasting.

In 1948, Annamani brought what he had learned to India by working in the Indian Meteorological Department.
