But there are fears the book could contain attacks and accusations against the royal family – sparked by Harry and his wife Meghan’s bombshell interview with chat show queen Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.

Royalist and foreign policy expert Niall Gardiner fears the Duke of Sussex’s memoir “could cause enormous damage to the royal family”.

In a major warning, he compared the book to “the publication equivalent of a grenade thrown into Buckingham Palace”.

He told “There’s been a lot of reaction to the publication and I expect it to be an angry and bitter book. It’s one that could do a lot of damage to the royal family. .

“The tone of the book is based on the title Spare And the front cover, looks very dark. It could be the release equivalent of a grenade being thrown into Buckingham Palace.”

Mr Gardiner added: “The title of the book sets the tone of hate from the start. It’s not going to be a book full of hope and passion.

“It can be a book full of a lot of anger and the title is a reflection of that anger. The title of the book alone sends a huge negative signal.”

A royal activist warned there would be “a lot of tension” within Buckingham Palace around the publication of the book and its contents.

But he warned that any attacks on the royal family would be “extremely damaging” to the monarchy and would have a “catastrophic” impact on Harry and Meghan’s royal family losing their royal titles.

Mr Gardiner continued: “Buckingham Palace will be very concerned about the book and there will be a lot of anxiety about its upcoming publication. I expect it will be a great bridge with the royal family. The long-term effects will be very damaging to the monarchy.”

“The impact on Harry and Meghan’s position in the royal family will be devastating. If the book is attacked they will lose their royal titles.”

In March 2021, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down for a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey — about 12 months after they relinquished their roles as working members of the royal family when they moved to America.

During the interview, the couple alleged there were “many conversations” within the royal family about their soon-to-be baby Archie’s skin tone.

Prince William quickly jumped to the monarchy’s defense, later insisting: “We’re not a very racist family.”

During an interview with Oprah, the couple accused the royal family of ignoring Meghan’s cries for mental health help and leaving her feeling suicidal.

Buckingham Palace issued a rare public statement saying the claims were “concerning” and would be “addressed privately by the family”.

In a press release for Harry’s book, publisher Penguin Random House said: “Spare It immediately transports readers to one of the most fascinating images of the 20th century: two young boys, two princes, walk behind their mother’s coffin as the world watches in sadness and horror.

“When Diana, Princess of Wales was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes were thinking and feeling – what their lives would look like from that moment on. For Harry, it was his last story.

“With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a seminal publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”

A promotional website for the new book has also gone live, with Penguin saying the Duke of Sussex will donate to British charities.

When Prince Harry announced the details of the book last year, he said in a statement: “I am writing this not as the prince I was born with, but as the man I have become.

“I’ve worn many hats over the years, literally and figuratively, and in telling my story — the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned — I can help show where I’m from. We have more in common than we think.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned in my life so far, and I’m excited for people to read a first-hand account of my life that’s accurate and completely truthful.”
