Putin’s ‘army of the dead’ unleashes ‘crazy’ attacks on Donbas | World | news

Vladimir Putin’s “army of the dead” is carrying out “crazy” attacks in Ukraine’s Donbas region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

Mr Zelensky said the heaviest fighting was taking place in Pakmut, where Ukrainian troops have resisted Russian offensives for months, and in Avdiivka, outside the city of Donetsk.

In a midnight video address on Wednesday, he said: “This is where the frenzy of the Russian command is most evident. Day after day, month after month, they pile up the highest artillery barrages and force people to die. .”

Russia focused much of the war on “liberating” the Donbas region. Ukrainian military sources have described the poorly trained Russian units tasked with capturing the region as an “army of the dead” because it is highly unlikely that they will return alive from their fight.
